The Celts

In SESE we are currently learning about the Celts. We are finding them very interesting and we found it especially interesting that a lot of our Irish words today came from their own Celtic language. Here is all the info we have learned so far:

Learning to dance

This year the school is trying to achieve an active flag. Therefore all classes are trying really hard to take part in all the strand of pe- not just sport!! This month we are focusing on dance. We are learning to keep time, move to the rhythm, choreograph dance moves and do mirror dances. Although some us (particularly the boys) were a bit skeptical at first, we are all trying really hard and are actually starting to enjoy it. Here are some pictures of us dancing today:

Finger painting art

On Friday we did some finger painting art. We had learned about William Wordsworth and his poem 'Daffodils' earlier in the day so we included some daffodils in our vases. Here are some examples:

Basketball training

We have been really busy doing basketball training every Monday. Everybody seems to be really enjoying learning new skills and perfecting old ones. We have learned the chest pass, the bounce pass, the overhead pass, shooting and dribbling. Here's a few pictures from our last training session:

Halloween ghost photo frames

Today we made some creepy Halloween photo frames. We came up with some great imaginative ideas. Some people made magnets for the fridge while others put a hook on them to hang them up. Have a look at them:

Halloween in our classroom

We decorated our classroom for Halloween and made it really spooky and creepy. Check out the cool pictures:

History and Geography

We have been working really hard in our SESE classes.

  • In geography we learned about Greece. This was a very interesting country to study and below is a picture of all the information we came across.
  • In history we learned about schools int he past in Ireland. We loved studying this topic and found it very interesting. We did a project on schools in the past and below is a picture of the timeline we created.

Procedural writing

We have been busy learning about the different types of writing. The type that we focused on for September and October was procedural writing. We learned all about what procedural writing is, when we use it, things to include and important points to remember. We wrote about :

  1. How to make a cup of tea
  2. How to carve a pumpkin
  3. How to design a scrapbook
  4. How to make a salad sandwich
  5. How to boil an egg.
Here are some pictures of us making salad sandwiches and recording the steps in our procedural writing.
